Finding Joy Through Creativity

I was recently introduced to The Mel Robbins Podcast while doing a walk with Matty Maggiacomo on Peloton. I was instantly inspired by Mel’s words—and honestly, a little surprised I hadn’t heard of her before. That changed quickly when I spotted her latest book on a display shelf at Barnes & Noble.
I’m now about five episodes in, and each one feels like it was meant to reach me at just the right time. I’ve started journaling after listening because there’s so much wisdom I want to hold onto.
The episode that really resonated with me was “4 Steps to Unlock Your Creativity and Feel More Inspired Every Day”(August 28, 2025). In it, Mel interviews Phil Cook, a musician and songwriter, and what I loved most is how they redefine creativity—not as the output, but the input.
Creativity isn’t about mastering an instrument or producing art for others. It’s about the joy it brings to you.
For me, creativity shows up in small ways—how I listen to others as a literacy coach, how I organize and clean, or even in my simple doodles. None of it’s perfect or polished, but it all brings me joy. That’s what makes me creative.
One quote from Mel really stuck with me:
“Creativity is something there for you to tap into that deepens your experience of life itself.”
That line reminded me that being creative doesn’t mean performing—it means participating. It’s about showing up fully in whatever brings light to your day.
So today, I decided to express my creativity through reflection—in words. Writing helps me slow down and connect with what matters.
Question for you:
What’s one small way you express your creativity that brings you joy—whether or not anyone ever sees it?
