Quiet.
Head in hands.
Immediate shift in tension
from the temples
to gone.
The tension seems to escape through my nose.
Inhale.
Exhale.
A good day.
A busy day.
The day is not done.
When I start back at
my
to-
do
list
the tension
inhales back in
exhales and stays.
Reflection.
Write.
Calm.
Great poem. I wish tension would leave when I put my head in my hands. I am having a hard time releasing tension. I am constantly breathing in and out deeply.

Spare words that create a powerful sense of the tension you feel. Very well done.

This poem is stunning. So well crafted, Heather. Tension is a hard one for me to let go of, too

I love the rhythm of this poem, the in and out of the breath, the measured beat of quiet and calm and it tries to work against your tension. And this idea of writing, of poetry as breath – it’s powerful in so many ways. There’s the rhythm of the writing itself, but I’m also thinking about how self-expression is as important to our survival as breathing. I’m going to carry that with me today.
